A 17-year-old boy has been arrested following a devastating car crash in Washington Heights that claimed the lives of a groom-to-be and his relative, ABC News reports.

The teenager faces charges of vehicular manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, and leaving the scene of an accident.

According to authorities, the crash occurred last month when the boy, driving a pick-up truck, entered the wrong lane on the Henry Hudson Parkway, heading southbound in the northbound lane. He collided with a car carrying 38-year-old Kirk Walker Jr. and his 40-year-old cousin, then fled the scene.

First responders rushed both victims to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

Walker had been set to marry his fiancée, Shauntea Weaver, the day after the crash. Instead, family and friends gathered in Bergenfield, New Jersey, for a vigil, releasing balloons to honor Walker’s memory.

“I have to go home alone on my wedding day because a reckless driver killed my husband and his cousin,” Weaver said.

At the vigil, Walker's father shared his grief. "He wanted to grow his family. He was one of the best. If you met him, you'd have liked him instantly," he said.

In addition to his fiancée, Walker leaves behind three young children.
