A woman is alerting other drivers after her dash camera exposed an apparent car insurance scam attempt on the Belt Parkway in Queens, ABC News 7 reports.

Asphia Natasha was driving on the busy highway Wednesday morning when a car abruptly cut her off, forcing her to slam on the brakes.

Although she narrowly avoided hitting the car, the other driver then reversed, accelerated, and deliberately crashed into Natasha's vehicle.

"I handled it like a regular accident. I asked if they were okay, and we exchanged information. The man in the video claimed the woman was driving, but said she didn’t speak English," Natasha explained.

However, footage from the dash cam shows the backseat passengers trying to cover the rear window while the driver climbed into the front passenger seat, then exited the car pretending to be injured.

All the passengers got out, taking pictures and videos of the damage.

"They were in a rush to leave, saying they had to go pick up their baby. When I turned to check on my car, they just got back in theirs and drove off," Natasha recalled.

After reviewing the footage, Natasha and her partner, Hudson Kuang, suspected it was a scam.

"When we showed the video to the police, they said they've seen similar scams," Kuang noted.

The National Insurance Crime Bureau warns that staged accidents are more common in urban areas with high traffic, where criminals often target women driving alone.
