Two drivers were arrested following a crash in Brooklyn that left a 1-year-old, who was not in a car seat, in critical condition, - ABC News7 reports.

Police officers rushed the boy to Brookdale University Hospital in their cruiser, where he is being treated for a skull fracture.

The child and his 21-year-old mother were in the passenger seat of a car driven by 28-year-old Natalie Leonard around 7 p.m. on Monday. According to police, Leonard had a blood alcohol content of 0.08%.

Authorities report that Leonard ran a red light at Livonia Avenue and Mother Gaston Boulevard and then attempted to do the same at Dumont Avenue. It was at this point she collided with another car that had the right of way.

Officials stated that the boy's mother was not wearing a seatbelt and was holding her son at the time of the crash.

The child is reported to be in critical but stable condition.

Leonard was arrested and charged with reckless endangerment, vehicular assault, acting in a manner injurious to a child, driving while intoxicated, and reckless driving, among other violations.

The 38-year-old driver of the other car, Leisel Renaud, was charged with attempted aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
