Firefighters battled a massive blaze that broke out at a supermarket and spread to surrounding buildings in Bushwick, Brooklyn, Wednesday night, leaving six people injured and dozens displaced, - ABC News 7 reports

NewsCopter 7 captured the chaotic scene at 1385 Bushwick Avenue, with smoke and flames engulfing the supermarket while FDNY fire trucks extended ladders to combat the blaze. Over 250 firefighters swiftly responded to the emergency.

According to FDNY officials, the fire originated in the supermarket, which was operational at the time, before extending its reach to four adjacent structures. Locals mention that the supermarket is relatively new, having opened less than a year ago.

FDNY Assistant Chief Tom Currao described the magnitude of the situation, escalating to the equivalent of a seven to eight alarm fire, requiring multiple reinforcements to gain control.

The wooden construction of the buildings posed a significant challenge for the responders.

Six individuals sustained minor injuries, as reported by FDNY officials. The Red Cross says they are currently assisting 55 residents and three pets.

The cause is under investigation.
