Several people, including a mother and her baby, were rescued by firefighters after a fire broke out in a Queens apartment building on Friday, - ABC News 7 informs.

FDNY officials reported that the fire started shortly after 7 p.m. on the second floor of a four-story building located at 34-09 83rd Street in Jackson Heights.

The fire originated in the kitchen area. When firefighters arrived, they encountered flames coming from an open door leading to the public hallway.

During their search of the building, first responders found several residents attempting to escape the fire. One tenant was located on the fire escape, while a woman with a baby was found on the roof.  Firefighters successfully rescued these tenants and handed them over to EMS.

Officials stated that three civilians sustained minor injuries, though it is unclear if these were the same individuals rescued by first responders. No firefighters were injured.

The fire was brought under control shortly after 8 p.m.

FDNY Deputy Chief Joseph Jardin mentioned that an e-bike or lithium-ion battery scooter was found near the kitchen, but it is unclear if this caused the fire.

FDNY Fire Marshals are investigating the cause.
