NYPD: 17-year-old shot in the head near Flatbush apartment complex

A teenager is in critical condition after being shot in the head early Monday morning in East Flatbush, police said. 

New York police confirmed that a 17-year-old boy was shot and killed just after 12:30 a.m. in the courtyard of the Flatbush Gardens apartment complex near 1402 Brooklyn Ave. 

He was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County by ambulance and is in critical condition, according to officials. 

Investigators say the three masked men fled the crime scene, heading west toward New York Avenue. One was dressed all in blue, and the other two were dressed all in black. 

Police do not believe the victim knew the suspects. 

Officers found several shell casings scattered throughout the complex.

The police are asking anyone with information to report this.
