Police report that a car crash in Queens was allegedly staged to claim insurance money, ultimately aiming to increase the victim's insurance costs, ABC News informs.

The suspected deliberate crash took place earlier this month on the Belt Parkway. While the people involved haven't been located, one of the vehicles has been recovered.

Ashpia Natasha described the moment when a car cut her off, suddenly stopped, and then reversed into her, leaving her baffled.

"When you got out, did you ask the driver why they reversed into you?" reporter Nina Pineda asked Natasha. "I did," Natasha replied. "At first, I asked what happened, and they just said, 'I don’t know.' Later, I asked, 'Why did you reverse into me?' but they just denied it."

As Natasha, a home health aide, reviewed her dashcam footage, it revealed four individuals clutching their heads and bending over, seemingly pretending to be injured.

She noticed the change in behavior when one man spotted her dashcam recording. "He looked like he was ready to leave as soon as he saw the camera," Natasha said.

The suspects abandoned their vehicle, which is now in the custody of the 68th precinct. The car shows significant damage and paint marks on the bumper.

An insurance adjuster estimated the damage to Natasha’s vehicle at $8,300.

“Innocent people, often with kids in the car, aren’t expecting someone to target them for insurance fraud, risking their lives for a payout,” said Phil Maltaghati of United Public Adjusters and Appraisers.

Maltaghati advises anyone in an accident to call the police, take pictures and videos, move to a safe area, and notify their insurance provider immediately. He also recommends reviewing liability coverage, considering an umbrella policy, and installing a dashcam.

"She’s fortunate to have had cameras," Maltaghati added.

Thanks to her video evidence, Natasha can demonstrate that she wasn’t at fault.

The seized vehicle has since been vandalized, with clear signs that people disapprove of the incident.
