A 74-year-old man was fatally struck in a hit-and-run crash involving an SUV in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, ABC News7 informs.

The victim, Segundo Reina-Gaon, was crossing Ridge Boulevard at the crosswalk from west to east when he was hit by a white SUV traveling northbound on Ridge Boulevard at Bay Ridge Avenue just after 8:55 p.m. on Wednesday.

The impact pushed him into a parked car as the SUV sped away, causing damage to several parked vehicles.

Reina-Gaon was rushed to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn, where he was pronounced dead.

Police are reviewing surveillance footage and using a drone to investigate the incident.

Local residents have expressed concerns over frequent accidents and reckless driving in the area.

"I stand on the curb. I don't even step out until the light turns, and then I look to make sure the car stops before I walk," said Jeffrey Diamond, a neighbor. "Right over there, they put these yield-for-pedestrians signs, where maybe a month ago somebody was hit."

Amara Felice, another neighbor, added, "It's a family-friendly area. We're trying to teach our kids to walk alone, and we're afraid because there are so many reckless drivers."

Senator Andrew Gounardes mentioned on social media that he had discussed safety concerns with Department of Transportation officials just two days before the crash, only a block away from where it occurred. Gounardes, a strong advocate for red light cameras throughout the city, noted that such a measure could have helped investigators capture the SUV's license plate.

"I've had to jump back to the curb with the light too many times to count," Gounardes stated.

Anyone with information about the crash is urged to contact the police.
