A shocking video captures a horrific chain-reaction crash, allegedly caused by a Mercedes driver running a red light, resulting in the death of a pedestrian and narrowly missing a woman with a shopping cart in Harlem on Monday, New York Post informs.

Angel Melendez, 51, who had a 14-year-old boy as a passenger, was charged with second-degree manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide after the 3:40 p.m. crash at First Avenue and East 105th Street, according to authorities.

Melendez was speeding north on First Avenue when he abruptly switched lanes and ran a red light, police said. As he crossed East 105th Street, his white 2007 Mercedes mounted a concrete island and demolished a laundry cart, barely missing the woman pushing it, as seen in the video.

The Mercedes then struck a parked, unoccupied Suzuki motorcycle before crashing into a parked 2009 Chevy Tahoe, which in turn hit a 51-year-old pedestrian trying to cross the street between the SUV and a US Postal Service box truck, a 2017 Ford, police and the video revealed.

The collision caused the Tahoe to crash into the box truck and a parked 2007 Infiniti G35. Although the Chevy and box truck were empty, a 50-year-old man was inside the Infiniti, police said.

The pedestrian suffered severe leg trauma and was rushed to Weill Cornell Medical Center, where he later died. He has not been officially identified, but local resident Gloria Robinson told WNBC that her neighbor, who used to lift her spirits during her battle with cancer, was the victim. "I just screamed, I just cried. I just cried for him and I can’t believe it’s true," she said.

The Infiniti driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to Harlem Hospital. The teenage boy in the Mercedes was unharmed, police said.

Melendez remained at the scene and was taken to Metropolitan Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition. He also faces charges for acting in a manner injurious to a child and second-degree reckless endangerment, police said.
