The FDNY says a 57-year-old man Roger Assmann and his dog are dead after a fire at his mother's house in Queens, - ABC 7 News writes.
The deadly fire occurred in the South Ozone Park around 12:30 a.m. Saturday. Citizen app video shows heavy flames and smoke at a house on 133rd Street.
An Uber driver says he saw the flames and run out of the car to rescue a dog that was inside. "It looks like the dog had difficulty breathing and an injury on the back," the driver told Eyewitness News. "I have dogs myself. I have five dogs. I would want somebody to do this for my dog if I'm not around."
Unfortunately the saved dog was not able to overcome its injuries and died a short time later.
After the initial fire investigation, officials believe the flames started in the victim's kitchen.
The FDNY does not consider the fire to be suspicious.
