Authorities reported the tragic death of a 58-year-old woman from Flatbush, who was fatally struck by a dump truck just two blocks from her home early Thursday (March 7th) morning.

The victim, identified as Maria Piovanetti, was pronounced dead at the scene around 6 a.m., after emergency responders found her at the intersection of Tilden Avenue and Bedford Avenue near Kings Theatre.

According to the initial findings of the NYPD Highway District's Collision Investigation Squad, Piovanetti was walking westbound across the marked crosswalk on Bedford Avenue from the northeast corner to the northwest corner when a 2014 Kenworth dump truck, traveling southbound on Bedford Avenue, collided with her.

Reports from the New York Daily News indicate that the dump truck made an illegal right turn at a red light while Piovanetti was crossing.

The driver of the dump truck fled the scene following the incident and remains unidentified as of Thursday. As of Friday, no arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.
