Nine people sustained minor injuries, and dozens of flights were affected after a small fire broke out at JFK Airport on Wednesday morning, ABC 7 news reports.
The fire originated on an escalator in Concourse C, spreading smoke throughout Terminal 8 around 7:15 a.m.
Approximately 960 people were evacuated and relocated within the terminal. Nine individuals suffered minor smoke inhalation, with four requiring hospital evaluation.
The FDNY has inspected and is currently ventilating the terminal.
American Airlines, which operates from the terminal, has canceled 153 flights and delayed 1,514 domestic flights nationwide. It remains unclear how many of these delays and cancellations are directly related to the fire.
Travelers are advised to check with their airlines before heading to the airport.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
