A 61-year-old woman who was fatally shot in the head in Harlem on Tuesday evening was apparently an innocent victim of gunfire, according to ABC News 7.
The shooting occurred on 113th Street and Lenox Avenue near the beauty salon at about 22:20 on Tuesday.
Officials say a 23-year-old man was also shot in the leg. He is expected to recover.
Police say this man was involved in the shooting that led to the death of the woman.
Officials believe he was shooting at another man when he was shot in the leg. The charges against him are pending.
Meanwhile, the crime scene spanned several blocks after detectives discovered a bullet hole in a car window on 115th Street. They are working to determine if this find is related to the fatal shooting.
A pistol and at least eight shell casings were found at the scene of the shooting.
Police say the 61-year-old victim apparently came out of her house after hearing gunshots, which appeared to be an argument between two groups.
She was taken to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital, but could not be saved. Her name has not been released until her family is notified.
