A pedestrian struck by an MTA bus in Alphabet city in East Village

A tragic incident unfolded in Manhattan's East Village on Friday night, March 1, resulting in the death of a pedestrian struck by an MTA bus, - Eyewitness news ABC 7 states.
Responding to a 911 call reporting a motor vehicle collision, officers arrived to Alphabet city at the intersection of Avenue D and East 10th Street just after 10:30 p.m. According to the NYPD, 45-year-old Shawn Gooding was situated at the southwest corner of the intersection when he stumbled and fell into the roadway near the designated crosswalk.
Reportedly, an MTA bus traveling along East 10th Street had the right of way with a green light and proceeded to execute a right turn onto Avenue D, inadvertently colliding with Gooding at the rear of the bus.
Tragically, the bus did not stop at the scene of the accident.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered Gooding lying on the road with significant injuries. Emergency responders rushed him to Bellevue Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead
The NYPD has since located the bus involved and is conducting investigations. Authorities believe the 59-year-old bus driver may have been unaware of the collision with the pedestrian.
As of now, no arrests have been made, and the investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
