Police report a fatal car accident occurred on the Bronx River Parkway early Friday morning, - New12 the Bronx writes.

The NYPD states that the male driver of a speeding Jeep Grand Cherokee lost control, colliding with a partition before overturning the vehicle. Tragically, the female passenger, aged 30, was ejected and killed, while the 34-year-old male driver is in critical condition.

All lanes of the Bronx River Parkway have since reopened near Boston Road.

This incident coincides with a major construction endeavor by the Department of Transportation along the Bronx River Parkway. From Exit 9 at Gun Hill Road to Exit 10 at Wakefield Avenue, lanes are being adjusted to accommodate the replacement of a bridge over the Metro-North rail. Throughout this project, two lanes will be available on each side of the span until the completion slated for March 2025.
