A car crashed into a Mattress Firm store in Westchester County on Friday morning, just after 9 a.m. on Central Avenue, ABC 7 News reports.
Fortunately, the store was closed at the time, and officials do not believe anyone was injured.
The woman driving the car explained that she was trying to back up from a gas station next door when something went wrong, causing her to go over the curb, hit a dumpster, and crash through the store's glass.
A passenger was also inside the car during the incident.
The Hartsdale Fire Department chief reported that while the store's front glass was shattered and there was some damage to a back wall, the structure itself did not appear to have sustained significant damage. The car's front wheel was resting on a staircase railing, so firefighters had to stabilize it to safely extract the driver and passenger.
Store manager Ana Nunez was surprised to receive the call about the accident.
"An associate who works nearby was heading to the gym when he called me and said, 'Hey, I just passed by the store, and a car is inside your store,'" Nunez said. Nunez expressed relief that no one was hurt.
"They told me they were OK. I wasn't really thinking about the building. A building is just a building," she said.
She noted that it is too early to determine when the store will be cleaned up and reopen for business.
