Following the death of a 39-year-old man, his family arranged for his remains to be sent to Guatemala, his homeland, for burial services. However, while virtually attending the funeral from the United States via live stream, the family experienced a shocking revelation: the body within the coffin was not that of their deceased loved one.
Instead, they discovered the body belonged to a 96-year-old woman, a complete stranger to them. The family expressed that this error significantly intensified their grief. Lenor Valente, the deceased man's widow, voiced her distress, emphasizing her desire to prevent similar mistakes from happening to others.
The unsettling situation unfolded after Elmer Unul, 39, unexpectedly passed away. The R.G. Ortiz Funeral Homes in Corona, tasked with transporting Unul's body to Guatemala, mistakenly sent the remains of Carmen Maldonado, 96, who was supposed to be buried in Ecuador. This discovery prompted both families to initiate legal action against Ortiz, joining a series of similar complaints filed over the years. The funeral home declined to comment on the recent lawsuit.
