Two people are dead, and two others are seriously injured after a multi-vehicle crash on I-80 in Bergen County, New Jersey, - ABC News7 writes.
The accident occurred around 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday at milepost 66.6 on I-80 east in Hackensack.
Investigators report that a Toyota SUV triggered the chain reaction by striking the curbed median, entering the express lanes, and colliding with a tractor-trailer.
The impact caused the tractor-trailer to hit the center concrete median and veer into the I-80 westbound express lanes, where it collided with a box truck.
The box truck ended up in the I-80 westbound local lanes and caught fire, killing both the driver and the passenger. Their identities are pending confirmation.
A GMC SUV then collided with the tractor-trailer.
The tractor-trailer's driver, a 63-year-old man from Temple, Texas, and the passenger, a 60-year-old man from Killeen, Texas, sustained serious injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital. The driver and passenger of the GMC sustained minor injuries.
No other injuries were reported.
The crash remains under investigation.
According to NJ DOT, while the I-80 westbound local lanes have reopened, express lanes in both directions remain closed for median and guardrail repairs and will stay closed into the afternoon.
