A ball of fire consumed the outdoor dining area behind a Brooklyn hotel sending smoke spewing through the neighborhood early Wednesday morning, ABC News 7 reports.
Officials from Moxy Williamsburg reported a swift and orderly evacuation of the hotel, with no injuries to guests or staff.
The fire broke out at approximately 2:15 a.m. in the hotel’s outdoor dining area, part of the Bar Bedford restaurant. Flames tore through the tent covering the space, consuming the entire dining area and generating heavy smoke.
Firefighters worked through dense smoke to extinguish the flames. According to the hotel, the FDNY determined the fire was caused by an electrical malfunction in the garden.
All hotel guests were allowed to return within two hours. As a precaution, the hotel temporarily closed its Mesiba restaurant for the day, though operations in the rest of the facility remained unaffected.
Residents of a nearby apartment building, noticing the smoke, self-evacuated to the street.
