Firefighters contended with two simultaneous fires in Brooklyn on Saturday afternoon, - Brooklyn Paper writes.
At around 12:45 p.m. on June 8, units responded to heavy smoke emerging from the roof of a two-story attached house near East 78th Street and Flatlands Avenue in Canarsie. Over 100 firefighters used five hose lines to extinguish the main fire, which quickly spread to the building’s cockloft, the space between the ceiling and the roof.
There were no injuries reported, and the fire was brought under control by 1:40 p.m.
As that fire was being contained, another blaze erupted less than a mile and a half away, near East 53rd Street and Avenue D in East Flatbush.
Firefighters arrived at the second scene to find intense fire and smoke emanating from a one-story commercial ironmaking shop, located just feet from the neighborhood’s longstanding Pepsi facility.
Units deployed four hose lines to combat the main fire. No injuries were reported, and the fire was declared under control by 2:35 p.m.
The FDNY’s Fire Marshal’s Office will investigate the cause and origin of both fires.
