Hit-and-run driver kills man on Bruckner Expressway in the Bronx

Early Sunday morning, a hit-and-run driver in the Bronx struck and killed a 51-year-old man on the Bruckner Expressway, AM NY informs.
Police reported that the unidentified man was found around 5:20 a.m. on July 21 with severe traumatic injuries, lying on the expressway’s northbound lanes near Exit 8B into Pelham Bay Park. EMS pronounced him dead at the scene.
The NYPD stated that the man appeared to have been struck by an unknown vehicle, which fled the scene. The driver has not been apprehended, and the reason the victim was walking on the Bruckner Expressway remains unclear.
The incident is under investigation by the NYPD’s Highway Collision Investigation Squad.
According to NYPD statistics, as of mid-July 2024, traffic collisions in the city have resulted in 136 deaths, a rise of over 5% from the same period last year.
