A 35-year-old man, identified by police as Sharief Jackson, was shot and killed early Saturday morning in Hell’s Kitchen, Eyewitness News reports.

Jackson sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the torso during an altercation near West 49th Street and 9th Avenue just before 3 a.m., according to authorities.

Residents of the block woke up to the sight of police tape and patrol cars as heavily armed officers entered and exited the building where the shooting occurred. Police say Jackson was shot twice in the stomach inside the building, with investigators believing the violence stemmed from an argument that escalated.

Jackson was rushed to a nearby hospital but later died there.

Overnight, officers were seen escorting a handcuffed individual from the building, but authorities have not confirmed their involvement in the incident.

A neighbor shared concerns about recurring disturbances in the building, describing frequent arguments and loud music. "Yesterday, I heard screaming, but it’s something that happens every week," the neighbor explained, noting that a third voice was present during the latest altercation.

Other residents expressed fear and unease, troubled by the proximity of the violence and growing concerns for their safety.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.
