Police are searching for two suspects involved in a deadly shooting over a parking dispute in the Bronx, ABC News 7 reports.
The incident occurred just before 2 a.m. Saturday on Fowler Avenue.
Authorities say 49-year-old Trevor Hughes got into an argument with two men over a parking spot when the situation escalated, leading to gunfire. According to the NYPD, Hughes was shot in the stomach. First responders rushed him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Neighbor Akmell Edwards is struggling to process Hughes' sudden death.
Edwards explained that Hughes often parked in his driveway. On Saturday, a car was blocking the driveway when Hughes arrived home, sparking a dispute with the occupants of the vehicle. "They're saying this is not a driveway. How can you argue that when it's clearly a driveway?" Edwards said.
Police say the two suspects fled the scene in a Jeep SUV and remain at large.
"They need to catch them and put them in jail for a long time," said Louis Amalfitano, another neighbor.
Residents of Fowler Avenue remember Hughes as a kind man, a devoted father, and a hard worker.
"If I left for work early and there was snow, he'd shovel for my mother-in-law. He helped me cut trees and did all kinds of things around the house," Edwards shared. "I'm just at a loss for words—completely caught off guard."
