Police are searching for two suspects involved in the shooting of a 32-year-old man who was sitting in his Maserati at a Harlem gas station early Wednesday morning? ABC News7 informs.
The incident, described by investigators as an attempted carjacking, occurred around 8:30 a.m. at the BP gas station on Park Avenue and 129th Street.
Officials report that two suspects, both wearing dark hooded sweatshirts, approached the Maserati’s driver and opened fire. Surveillance footage obtained by Eyewitness News shows the suspects fleeing the scene.
In the video, the 2017 Maserati Quattroporte is seen edging out of the gas station before suddenly crossing Park Avenue. At one point, a man tumbles out of the rear passenger-side door, appearing to drop and then quickly retrieve a handgun. Another individual exits the gas station, and the two suspects are seen running south.
Gas station attendant Santokh Singh heard the gunshots and immediately called 911.
The Maserati’s driver sustained gunshot wounds to his arm, leg, and shoulder. Emergency responders transported him to Harlem Hospital, where he underwent surgery.
NYPD Chaplain Robert Rice visited the hospital to check on the victim. "I just left the hospital. The young man is in surgery. I don’t know his condition. I was at the scene, went to the hospital, and now I’m back at the scene," Rice stated.
Police are actively investigating, searching the Maserati for evidence and reviewing additional security footage from the gas station and surrounding area for clues about the suspects’ identities.
Nearby, Pedro Hernandez, a deli worker with 15 years of experience in the neighborhood, shared his thoughts on the incident. "The sound of gunfire isn’t uncommon here," he said. "But every shooting still brings fear. When it happens, we just try to hide."
"Fear. Even though we are used to it because there is usually a shooting around here. We just to tried to hide when this is happening," he said.
