A tragedy occurred on the New York subway on Friday morning: 38-year-old John Sheldon from Brooklyn was fatally stabbed, ABC News 7 informs.
The incident occurred on southbound train 5 after a verbal altercation that escalated into a physical confrontation. According to the witnesses, it all started when two got into a fight after the suspect unintentionally stepped on Sheldon's shoe. After this Sheldon showed aggression and used insults.
The conflict continued on the Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall/Chambers Street station platform, where Sheldon followed the suspect on the train after the first stabbing . Then he received another stab wound, which was fatal.
The NYPD is investigating using CCTV footage from both the train and the station. Sheldon was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
The suspect is described as a man in his 30s, with a black beard, wearing a black hoodie, jeans, a black baseball cap and black Beats headphones.
The police are asking anyone with information to contact them. This tragic case was the first murder in the subway system this year.
Authorities said John had about 70 previous arrests. His last arrest was in February for assaulting a police officer at 34th Street Penn Station.
