A dramatic conclusion followed a terrifying series of events in Brooklyn when bystanders helped lift an overturned minivan off its driver, ABC News7 informs.
According to police, the driver first collided with two cars at a different location before striking two pedestrians—a 26-year-old woman and a 3-year-old girl—at a crosswalk in Brownsville.
"It sounded like a bomb exploded. It was incredibly loud," recounted one eyewitness.
Eudus James, who owned both vehicles damaged by the overturned minivan, took the lead in rescuing the driver. "The car was upside down, and everyone rushed in to try and flip it over," James said.
He also noticed a bottle of Cognac on the pavement near the crash, with another bottle of alcohol visible inside the vehicle.
The 61-year-old driver was taken into custody, according to police. The woman and young girl were transported to the hospital and are in stable condition.
