Police have arrested a 26-year-old mother, Delfina Galvez, for allegedly abandoning her newborn baby girl in the Bronx early Sunday morning, ABC News reports.

Galvez faces multiple charges, including reckless endangerment and child abandonment, after police say she left the infant in a tote bag outside a home in the Longwood neighborhood.

Authorities report that Galvez resides near the location where the baby was found.

The homeowner on Reverend James A. Polite Avenue discovered the newborn after being alerted by a friend who heard crying outside.

The baby was taken to a nearby hospital and is expected to recover. Galvez is scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday.
