A 56-year-old Bronx man was fatally struck in a hit-and-run early Wednesday morning, September 25th., at the intersection of East 163rd Street and Westchester Avenue in the 41st Precinct, police reported, Bronx Times informs.
Officers responded to a 911 call around 6:33 a.m. regarding a pedestrian hit by a vehicle. Upon arrival, they found the victim, identified as Alhadji Fofana, unconscious and unresponsive in the roadway. He was transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln, where he was pronounced dead.
The NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad determined that Fofana was crossing Westchester Avenue in the northernmost crosswalk when he was hit by a 2008 Ford van. The driver fled the scene immediately.
Further investigation revealed the van was abandoned nearby, and someone had attempted to set it on fire before fleeing on foot. Authorities later discovered that both the van and its license plate had been reported stolen.
No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.
