Police have released new images of suspects linked to a Queens nightclub shooting on New Year’s Day that injured 10 teenagers, according to NYPD.
The shooting occurred around 11:20 p.m. outside the Amazura nightclub on 144th Place, where a private event was being held to honor Taearion Mungo, a 16-year-old fatally shot in Brooklyn last October. Mungo would have turned 17 on Wednesday.
Officials say four suspects approached a group outside the venue and fired over 30 shots, injuring three men and seven women aged 16 to 20. All victims were hospitalized and are expected to survive.
The suspects fled in a gray Infiniti Q50 with red interior and New Jersey plates, last seen on the Van Wyck Expressway.
"There is zero tolerance for these senseless shootings," said NYPD Chief of Patrol Philip Rivera.
Mayor Eric Adams condemned the violence, stating such criminal behavior has no place in New York City:
Mayor Eric Adams
An evening of celebration ended with senseless violence overnight at a venue in Queens. I want to be clear this incident has no connection to the terrorism investigations elsewhere in our country. As we have said, there is no room for this criminal behavior in our city and we are determined to bring these dangerous individuals to justice and get illegal guns off our streets. My prayers are with the victims and their families.
Police are investigating whether the shooting is gang-related but confirmed it was not an act of terror.
