Law enforcement officials have reported more than 250 crashes across Long Island during the recent mid February winter storm, - Channel 12 Brooklyn says.
Both state and county police were busy responding to incidents, with Nassau County reporting 82 crashes and Suffolk County responding to 133. Among the incidents, a van overturned in Jericho on the Long Island Expressway's South Service Road, while in Hauppauge, two stranded cars were spotted on Motor Parkway near Melwood Drive around 2 p.m.
State police informed that they attended to over 50 accidents in Nassau and Suffolk counties. Drivers expressed difficulties navigating the roads once the snow mixed with rain, creating a slushy terrain. Officials were cautioning motorists about potential black ice formation.
