Pedestrian dies after he’s hit by two cars just steps away from his NYC home

According to police, a tragic incident unfolded on Sunday just steps away from his Bronx residence, resulting in the death of 22-year-old Wilbert De Jesus Cordero, - NY Post reports.

Cordero was crossing White Plains Road mid-block, near Archer Street, around 4 a.m. on Sunday when he was struck by two vehicles. The first was a Mercedes driven by a 24-year-old man traveling southbound, which propelled Cordero into the northbound lanes. It was there that Adam Vilajeti, allegedly intoxicated and driving a 2017 BMW, collided with him.

Despite living just around the corner, Cordero succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to Jacobi Medical Center.

Vilajeti, who hails from Scarsdale in Westchester County, initially fled the scene but was apprehended about three hours later. He now faces charges of leaving the scene of an accident and driving under the influence, according to authorities.
