Authorities are currently on the lookout for a driver following a fatal crash on Staten Island. The incident occurred around 10:15 p.m. on Monday on a service road of the Staten Island Expressway, - Eyewitness news ABC7 reports.
Reportedly, a black BMW sedan traveling westward from the expressway veered off course, crashing through a fence and colliding with a utility pole. Tragically, during the collision, a man, identified as Usman Chugahati, aged 26, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
Another passenger, a 23-year-old male, sustained minor injuries in the crash. The driver removed the license plates from the damaged car and fled the scene .
The aftermath of the accident has caused extensive cleanup efforts for residents residing along the service road. The downed utility pole resulted in damaged fencing and debris scattered, posing risks to back porches.
Law enforcement is actively working to ascertain the identity and whereabouts of the BMW driver involved in the incident.
