A 53-year-old Russian speaking man was killed in Brooklyn near Brighton Beach after being beaten and robbed in the back seat of an Uber, ABC News 7 informs.
According to police, the incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday in Coney Island, at the intersection of Neptune Ave. and West 5 street.
Two suspects entered the vehicle while it was stopped at an intersection and assaulted the passenger, stealing the gold chain he was wearing.
The suspects fled the scene, and the Uber driver continued driving for a few blocks before realizing the passenger had lost consciousness.
The victim, identified as Michael Shelonchik of Bergen Beach, Brooklyn, was taken to Maimonides Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
The Medical Examiner’s office will determine the cause of death. It remains unclear what provoked the attack or whether Shelonchik knew the suspects.
