Scooter rider killed in car crash on Upper East Side; driver arrested

A scooter rider was killed in a collision with an SUV on the Upper East Side late Sunday night, ABC News 7 reports.

The incident occurred just before midnight on East 79th Street, where a Volvo SUV traveling eastbound collided with an eastbound scooter.

The scooter operator was pronounced dead at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.

The 26-year-old driver of the SUV, identified as Shraga Orgad, sustained minor injuries and was also taken to NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.

Orgad was charged with driving without a license. Police believe he was speeding through a red light at the time of the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
