Scott Cohen, known for his role in “Gilmore Girls,” and his wife, Anastasia Traina, are counting their blessings after being caught in a high-speed car chase this summer that resulted in injuries for both of them, NY Post informs.

While returning home in Brooklyn, New York, their vehicle was struck head-on by another car.

“We thought we were going to die,” Cohen recounted to Page Six at HBO’s “The Penguin” premiere in New York City on Tuesday.

Cohen described the severity of their injuries, stating, “My wife’s arm is severely injured. I suffered a broken sternum, known as a nonunion break, and it’s unlikely to heal.”

The incident occurred on June 29 when police attempted to conduct a routine traffic stop in Astoria, Queens. The male driver fled the scene, and after leading police through Greenpoint, Brooklyn, he crashed into Cohen’s car.

Following the collision, the suspect's vehicle caught fire, and he fled on foot, engaging in a shootout with law enforcement. It's unclear if he was ever captured.

After the accident, Cohen, 62, shared images from the hospital and of his wrecked car, reflecting on the fragility of life and how quickly circumstances can change.

He expressed, “With broken bones, bruises, and having been affected by a random act of violence, we continue to move forward. I’m frustrated that my focus is now on healing, but I’m incredibly grateful that both my wife and I are here to cherish the love and generosity of our friends and family.”

Despite his injuries, Cohen was present at the red carpet event for “The Penguin” alongside cast members Colin Farrell, Cristin Milioti, Theo Rossi, Clancy Brown, and Michael Zeger.

Cohen is well-recognized for his portrayal of Max Medina, Lorelai Gilmore’s unfortunate suitor on “Gilmore Girls,” and notes that he is identified by fans nearly every week.

“To me, television is about making an impact,” he said. “If you can connect with someone, that’s why I do what I do. Acting allows me to express myself, but I want to make a difference in the world and evoke feelings in my audience.”

Cohen is set to lead a weekend acting workshop in New York City on October 5 and 6.
