On Friday night in Brooklyn, in the Flatbush neighborhood, police used weapons against a suspect in connection with a stabbing incident, NYPD reports.
According to police, a call about a knife attack came in at about 11:40 p.m. from Duryea Place.
Arriving at the scene, officers found the victim and attempted to apprehend the suspect, who then began to run.
A chase ensued, continuing for about two and a half blocks and ending on 21st Street. Police opened fire after the 29-year-old suspect reportedly rushed at them, leaving no time to make a decision.
The suspect sustained two gunshot wounds and was taken to a nearby hospital.
"As our officer was chasing the perpetrator, for an unknown reason, he stops, he turns, he makes intentional, multiple intentional movements like he has a firearm, charges our police officer in a full sprint for approximately 20 feet away," NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell said.
Firearms were not found, however, police released a photo of a knife and another blade found on the scene.
According to NYPD, the suspect has four prior arrests and convictions for assault and weapons possession.
The stabbing victim was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
