A woman and her newborn daughter are enjoying their initial moments as a family, both in good health and spirits, ABC News 7 reports.
This positive outcome is partly attributable to the quick actions of three Suffolk County police officers.
Around 6 p.m. on Monday evening, officers received an emergency call reporting a woman experiencing labor pains near Sunrise Highway in Shirley. Adding to the urgency, it was raining heavily.
The officers, including one who had just completed police academy training the previous Friday, assisted the 37-year-old woman in safely delivering her baby girl.
Mother and child are currently under medical care at a local hospital, where they are reported to be in stable condition.
