A suspect struck an officer during an attempted car stop in Queens on Sunday. The incident occurred around 5 p.m. in the Corona neighborhood when police tried to pull over a vehicle near 34th Avenue and 99th Street, ABC News 7 informs.
According to NYPD Deputy Commissioner Kaz Daughtry, the suspect reversed the car at high speed, nearly running over a small child walking with her mother and crashing into a building. The suspect then put the car into drive, accelerated towards an officer, hit him as he attempted to jump out of the way, pinned him between the suspect’s car and a parked vehicle, and then fled the scene.
Police pursued the suspect, who struck multiple vehicles before abandoning the car and fleeing on foot. The chase continued onto the number 7 subway line and onto a nearby building, where the suspect was eventually cornered and taken into custody. Charges are pending.
The officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries and received medical treatment.
