Police report that a suspected drunk driver caused a crash that led to multiple boats catching fire on Long Island, ABC News 7 reports.
The incident occurred around 10 p.m. Sunday on Route 231 and East Main Street in Babylon.
The driver, 54-year-old Lorrie Ibe, was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated. Authorities say she was initially seen driving the wrong way—southbound in the northbound lanes of Route 231. She eventually crossed the median, continued in the correct direction, and struck several road signs along the way.
According to police, Ibe then drove through an intersection at East Main Street, crossed another median, and crashed through the fence of Suffolk Marine Center. Her vehicle collided with a boat parked on land, sparking a fire that quickly spread to three other boats nearby.
Officers and a good Samaritan pulled Ibe from her vehicle before she was transported to a hospital, where she is expected to recover.
Ibe is scheduled to be arraigned in Central Islip court.
