On a rainy night in South Ozone Park, Queens, a tire mark and bloodied clothing on the ground stand as haunting reminders of the tragic death of Tanya's sister, ABC News7 reports.
"I want to know what happened," Tanya said, seeking answers.
Her sister, Vidya Dookran-Franco, 51, was a substitute teacher deeply involved in the community.
According to police, Dookran-Franco was struck by a yellow taxi that jumped the curb after colliding with a Honda Accord at the intersection of Lefferts Boulevard and 115th Avenue around 3 a.m. on Saturday.
Dookran-Franco had just left a nearby bar and was walking back to her car with friends when they were hit while standing on the sidewalk. The impact caused significant damage.
Two men suffered minor injuries, but Dookran-Franco did not survive the severe trauma.
Footage shows police examining one of the drivers involved, but no arrests have been made.
This marks the second incident in a week where a yellow cab struck pedestrians, following a similar event on Christmas in Herald Square.
