Police are searching for a man who allegedly posed as an immigration officer before attempting to sexually assault a woman in Brooklyn, ABC News 7 reports.

According to authorities, a 51-year-old Hispanic woman was waiting for a cab around 11 a.m. Tuesday near Montague Street and Henry Street in Brooklyn Heights when the suspect approached her.

The victim told detectives that the man claimed to be an ICE agent and led her to a nearby stairwell, where he punched her and attempted to rape her.

Before fleeing, the suspect stole her chain, cellphone, and purse. He did not present any identification.

The victim sustained cuts on her face, along with scratches and bruises on her body. She was transported to the hospital and is in stable condition.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or, for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
