A person working on a disabled vehicle was fatally struck by a truck on the Long Island Expressway early Wednesday morning, ABC News 7 reports.

 

The incident occurred around 5:30 a.m. on the westbound side of the LIE in the Fresh Meadows area of Queens.

 

Authorities confirmed that the individual was pronounced dead at the scene after being hit by a flatbed truck.

 

The truck driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

 

The westbound lanes of the expressway were temporarily closed during the investigation and cleanup.

 

Details about what caused the truck to strike the victim are still under investigation, and the victim’s identity has not yet been disclosed.
